Luis Roberto Guzmán (born April 9, 1973) is a Puerto Rican actor known for his performances in Mexican telenovelas like Alborada, and for his title role in the Mexican series El Pantera. Guzmán also worked on the film Ladies’ Night in 2003.
Early in his life Guzmán wanted to enter Menudo, but was unable to do it, eventually forming friendships with several former members. He subsequently studied at the University of Puerto Ricoʻs campus in Río Piedras. After completing his studies in the institution’s Department of Drama, Guzmán moved to Mexico in 1999, interested in pursuing a career in the telenovela industry. Although he works most of the time in Mexico, Guzmán often travels to Puerto Rico to rest.
Guzmán’s career began in the late 1990s, with small roles in Mexican telenovelas such as Preciosa and Cuento de amor. He quickly gained popularity, however, with his leading role in the 2000 telenovela Alborada. Guzmán’s performance in the show earned him a TVyNovelas Award for Best Co-lead Actor.
In the years since, Guzmán has starred in numerous other Mexican telenovelas, including El amor no tiene precio, El Pantera, Pasión morena, Atrévete a soñar, y Vino el amor. He has also appeared in several films, including Ladies’ Night, Sin vergüenza, and El club de los insomnes.
