Luka Ivanovi is a Serbian singer-songwriter better known as Luke Black. He was born in Čačak and was the first Serbian musician to be signed to Universal Music Group, where he released his debut EP Thornes in February 2015. Neoslavic (2018) and F23.8 (2023) followed. Luke Black’s song “Samo mi se spava” has been chosen to represent Serbia in the Eurovision Song Contest 2023.
Luka Ivanovi was born in Čačak, FR Yugoslavia on May 18, 1992. He was interested in music when he was 12 years old and began writing his own lyrics. A few years later, he began developing and producing music. Ivanovi moved to Belgrade after graduating from ČačakGrammar School to study English language and literature.
He later relocated to London, where he earned a master’s degree in music production. Ivanovi explained that his stage name “Luke” is an anglicisation of his first name, whereas “Black” comes from when he expressed forty days of mourning for the “death of the Serbian music scene” as a youngster.
